Learning
how to fly in the ubiquitous Cessna 172 in 1972, as a teenager,
this future leader in Aviation qualified as a Private pilot, at
age 19. Prior to taking up his appointment with MAS, he continued
flying in the General Aviation Industry, logging up to 2500 hours
as a Flying Instructor, teaching numerous ordinary people how to
fly. At last count, he had sent up to 200 student pilots on their
First Solo flight.
Captain
Siva is married to Rani, who remains the Chapters' Hon Secretary,
in an enduring twenty five year marriage and they have raised two
children, Rohini Rachel and Isaac Soorian who are young adults,
sharing a passion for aviation with their father. Rohini qualified
as the youngest Malaysian Private Pilot in 1998, under the EAA's
Young Eagles and Flying Start Programs.

In
1992, Capt Siva took his first visit to the EAA's Annual Convention
at Oshkosh Wisconsin. Typically, he flew with a group of private
pilot enthusiasts from Dallas, Texas, in a gaggle of five Cessnas,
parking and camping by the aircraft at Oshkosh. The week at Oshkosh,
enthused the Captain so much, that he made immediate enquiries with
EAA staff on the possibility of forming a Chapter in Malaysia. EAA
personnel enthusiastically welcomed the idea and he returned home
with an EAA Chapter starter Kit and a new found enthusiasm fired
by the week spent at Oshkosh, The World's Largest Aviation Event.
A Chapter with fourteen members was started at the Royal Selangor
Flying Club's premises in September 1992.
Returning
to Oshkosh in 1993, Capt Siva made the proverbial ' putting-the-money-in-the-mouth'
decision to purchase a kit airplane to be built in Malaysia. He
ordered a Merlin aircraft kit, and had it shipped to Malaysia. He
undertook construction and assembly of the aircraft, which was completed
and certified in 1996, being registered as the first kit built airplane
in Malaysia with the registration marks: 9M- EAA !
